This editorial illustration addresses the systemic pressure exerted on women and the forced institutional conformity of young girls. The visual concept explores the idea that traditional patriarchal conservatism and the aggressive capitalist beauty market are not opposing forces, but rather two synchronously operating cogs within the exact same system of control.

  • The Axis of Time and Generations: Features the contrasting profiles of a young girl looking downward and an adult woman looking upward. This represents the closed life cycle of a human resource being passed from one traditional authority structure to another.

  • The Heart of the Machine: At the core of the composition, embedded inside an inner gear, the silhouettes of a mosque (symbolizing religious dogma) and a cosmetic filler syringe (symbolizing market-driven beauty standards) merge seamlessly, acting as the driving engine of the apparatus.

  • The Hand of the Puppeteer: A large black silhouette of a hand at the top winds the central mechanism. Inspired by Elin Wägner’s feminist critique in Väckarklocka (Alarm Clock), this winding key embedded into the back of the woman’s head underscores total dehumanization, turning a living being into a clockwork automaton.

  • Toxic Environment (Color): A toxic, synthetic magenta-pink background—evoking glossy fashion magazines and digital social media aesthetics—swallows the monochrome silhouettes. It highlights how both systems function within the shared space of modern consumer capitalism, while white background gears create a claustrophobic, conveyor-belt atmosphere.

  • Format: Horizontal spread (Print / Web Banner).
